Atlantrees is one of the most recent investments in the avocado culture in Portugal. Ido Levine, general director of the company, reveals the reasons that led to the choice of the national territory to produce this subtropical fruit. «For us, Portugal was a combination of several factors, mainly because it is located in Europe and is part of the European Union, since our main market is Europe. Then there is land available in the country, water and the ideal climate for avocado cultivation. In addition, we can take advantage of the winter, when avocados reach a higher price on the European market». Located in Montargil, in the municipality of Ponte de Sôr, last year, 50 hectares of avocado were planted on the farm, mainly the Hass variety, but also the sub-varieties Lam Hass and Maluma Hass. The irrigation work was the responsibility of Magos Irrigation Systems, which fully installed the irrigation system. «It was very fast, efficient and well coordinated, as we were working with a tight schedule that simultaneously included other teams in the field. It was a very professional job», guarantees Ido Levine. With regard to the commercial partnership, the director-general only has praise for the Salvaterra de Magos company: «We were very satisfied with Magos and the work carried out in our exploration, from the management team to the technicians. They took our needs into consideration and always gave us the support we needed. We only have good things to say about our collaboration with Magos».
