Irrigation management in tomatoes: the JB Gaga case
At JB Gaga, in Azambuja (Portugal), 400 hectares of processing tomatoes are irrigated with D1000 drip tape and managed remotely with AgroBee. José Bento Gaga, the farm manager, explains why the system and the Magos team's fast response make the difference in the field.
At Sociedade Agrícola JB Gaga, in Azambuja, Magos works with a 400-hectare processing tomato farm. On an area this size, irrigation management calls for quick decisions and reliable information from the field. The irrigation system was installed by Magos, and José Bento Gaga, the farm manager, describes it as “a real asset”.
Efficiency starts with water management
Irrigation runs on Rivulis D1000 drip tape, with emitters every 20 cm and flow rates of 1 L/h and 0.64 L/h. Throughout the season, the solution has proven its performance, contributing to efficient irrigation and to good yield and quality results.
Changing irrigation from a phone
The farm has the AgroBee automation system, installed by Magos and connected to the Agronic 4500 controller from Progrès. “We can change the irrigation times over the phone, which is a real asset,” explains José Bento Gaga.
From a phone, the grower changes irrigation times, adjusts sectors, manages fertilization and keeps track of any issues, with more speed and control, because in the field every minute counts.
The installed solution
• D1000 drip tape (Rivulis): 8 mil, 20 cm emitter spacing, 1 L/h and 0.64 L/h • AgroBee automation, connected to the Agronic 4500 controller (Progrès) • Magos / IBEROFLAT / Ibotec layflat hose • H6000 layflat hose
Over 30 years of partnership
“I've worked with Magos for 30 years or more; I've even lost count. It has always been a good relationship, and I have no complaints at all. When I need something, I just call and someone shows up straight away to fix the problem.”
For José Bento Gaga, that on-the-ground response is what counts: “Problems always come up, and they get solved on the spot. Having Magos as our partner is a real asset.”
